Cost of Glory: Men's Retreat 2025

Austin Men's Retreat - Theme: Julius Caesar

This three-day retreat, for men only, will introduce participants to the ancient art and science of rhetoric in both theory and practice. The focus will be on applying ancient rhetoric in modern professional, business and social activities.

Also expect intense men’s camaraderie. This year, our theme is Julius Caesar, his skills of persuasion, leadership, and storytelling.

There will be some preparatory online instruction during the month prior to the retreat.

Dr. Alex Petkas, Dr. Eric Hewett, and an assistant teacher will lead the retreat.

The retreat will take place at the Estate at Crystal Creek, a retreat center in the hills west of Austin, Texas from January 23-26, 2025. A variety of housing options are available.

Alumni of the retreat will qualify to join The Rostra, an exclusive training circle for on-going practice and improvement in rhetoric.

Space is limited, so we encourage all to apply quickly.

Let's start with your personal details

Answer the following questions, as briefly or as fully as you care to:

Have you ever participated in a men-only retreat? If so, how was the experience?

What sector(s) of the economy do you work in?

What kind of roles do you take on in your work?

Is there something you want to accomplish that requires you to become a better writer or speaker?

How would improving your writing or speaking skills enhance your career?

What personal challenges do you set for yourself? What goals have you set and achieved?

How would you like to challenge yourself in the future, but haven’t yet?

We plan to offer an online component during the months prior to the course, to help keep our focus during the in-person portion of the course on practical applications. We anticipate asking for between 5-10 hours of commitment to study. There will be video, audio, readings, and a private group chat.

Do you see any obstacles to completing the preparatory course?

What do you hope to get out of this leadership retreat?

Is there anything else you would like to add that would help us consider your application?
